Pelican Ridge Hero Dunn-Edwards

Early on, clients took note of he and his brother Hector’s meticulous attention to detail on many of Southern California’s high-end homes. So, work naturally followed him when he struck out on his own 20 years ago. “I say I can do it [use more expensive paint], but I always ask ‘why?’ After all these years, I tell them I can’t ever see the difference,” he noted. Garcia’s fine-finish work is on display at this luxurious 5,000-square-foot Newport Coast, California home in the popular Pelican Ridge Estates community.

Teaching and training family members and others to embrace his level of quality has allowed the company to prosper and serve clients who demand only the best. Much of his work today involves fine finishes on trim, doors, cabinets, built-ins and prominent ceilings. “We do any type of special finish,” he said. “Something antique, modern… we can do it all.”

It’s important for me to make sure I use quality paint I know will work. Dunn-Edwards gives me that

Through the years, Garcia has seen the shift away from oil-based stains and coatings to more environmentally friendly, water-based ones for fine finishes. “With those changes, I remember there were problems to make it work like oil. I looked for good quality paint companies and this is why I use Dunn-Edwards,” he added. He also appreciates how Dunn-Edwards offers a quality product at a good price. Clients often request paints two to three times the cost of a Dunn-Edwards offering; Garcia isn’t afraid to tell them they might be overspending. The owner of this Tuscan gem, with ocean views and lush landscapes, initiated a significant interior overhaul over the past year.

The cherry wood and other deep-toned wood finishes of the past have been transformed into modern sophistication, with simple clean lines and muted white finishes. For the kitchen’s new shaker cabinets, Garcia used Dunn-Edwards’ ARISTOSHIELD semi-gloss. The paint was also used on trim, doors, new built-in shelving systems and eye-catching coffered ceilings. For the exterior, he turned to Dunn-Edwards’ SPARTASHIELD in Bone China, a warm, creamy white color. The project is yet another example of Garcia matching fine craftsmanship with high-quality materials. “We are a family business and I get to know my customers very well,” he added. “It’s important for me to make sure I use quality paint I know will work.
